Key Stage 4
This is an outline of how student groups are organized and the subjects that are taught at Key Stage 4. If you require any additional information then please contact the relevant Head of Department or Head of Year.
In years 10 and 11 pupils stay in mixed ability form tutor groups but for most subjects they are taught in sets according to their ability in that subject. The Key Stage 4 curriculum is continually under review in line with the 14-19 curriculum proposals of the DfES. Currently all students in years 10 and 11 take a core of subjects, which at present includes English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, PE and Personal Development. These are supported by a broad range of options which currently include:-
Applied Art and Design, Applied Business, Applied ICT, Art and Design, Business, Drama, Electronics, Engineering, Food, French, Geography, German, Graphics, Music, Health and Social, Care, History, Leisure and Tourism, Manufacturing, Physical Education, Religious Education, Resistant Materials, Spanish, Statistics, Textiles.
You can find out more information about these courses by downloading the Options Handbook here.
Each year, a number of Key Stage 4 students are “disapplied” from the national curriculum to enable them to follow appropriate re-engagement and vocational courses at Doncaster College and work placements with local businesses and caring institutions. These students follow individual learning plans whilst in school using the school’s new prestigious Key Stage 4 Learning Centre.
